(Stanislav Vav?ínek)

Bed?ich Smetana and his Má Vlast
Bed?ich Smetana (2 March 1824 - 12 May 1884) was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style which became closely identified with his country's aspirations to independent statehood. He is thus widely regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music.
By the end of 1874, Smetana had become completely deaf but, freed from his theatre duties and the related controversies, he began a period of sustained composition that continued for almost the rest of his life. The famous symphonic poems Má vlast was composed at that time.
Má vlast (meaning "My homeland" in the Czech language) is a set of six symphonic poems composed between 1874 and 1879 by Smetana. Each poem depicts some aspects of the countryside, history, or legends of Bohemia. The second poem Vltava, also known by its German name Die Moldau (or The Moldau) contains Smetana's most famous tune. The premiere of the complete set took place on 5 November 1882 in Prague, under Adolf ?ech.
Today, more than 130 years later, Má vlast is like a second national anthem that strikes an even deeper, more emotional chord that goes to the heart of the Bohemian culture and countryside.
PKF-Prague Philharmonia
The PKF-Prague Philharmonia, originally called the Prague Philharmonia, was founded in 1994 by the world-famous conductor Ji?í Bělohlávek, after his resignation as chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic the previous year. The PKF-Prague Philharmonia brings a breath of fresh air to the Czech and the global music scene in the form of a contagious élan and a drive to achieve superior performance of every detail of the score. In its “manifesto”, the orchestra highlighted vigour, energy, and perfectionism, as well as a tremendous love for the music, with which it imbues each and every concert.
Soon after its founding, the PKF – Prague Philharmonia joined the ranks of the most respected Czech orchestras and established great renown in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
The PKF-Prague Philharmonia is beloved for its characteristic sound, created in large part by the key focus of its repertoire: Viennese Classicism, pieces by Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
