Music Garden Tchaikovsky’s Piano Suite The Seasons

Time: 2016/8/20 (Sat.) 3 p.m.

Venue: Experimental Theatre

Price: TBC

The Seasons is a set of twelve short character pieces for solo piano by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which was commissioned by the editor of the St. Petersburg music magazine Nouvellist—Nikolay Matveyevich Bernard In 1875. Each piece is the characteristic of a different month of the year in the northern hemisphere. This time, two artists: Andrey Pisarev (piano) and Cao Lei (recite) will lead the public into a colorful world of the Seasons.

The blue, pure snowdrop — flower,

and near it the last snowdrops.

The last tears over past griefs,

and first dreams of another happiness.

—A. Maykov

Let us go to the shore;

there the waves will kiss our feet.

With mysterious sadness

the stars will shine down on us.

—Aleksey Pleshcheyev

A mournful time of year! Its sad enchantment

flatters my vision with a parting grace -

I love the sumptuous glow of fading nature,

the forests clad in crimson and in gold,

the shady coolness and the wind's dull roaring,

the heavens all shrouded in a billowing mist

and the rare gleams of sun, the early hoarfrosts,

and distant grey-beard winter's gloomy portents.

—Pushkin

In your loneliness do not look at the road,

and do not rush out after the troika.

Suppress at once and forever the fear of longing in your heart.

—Nikolay Nekrasov

The German newspaper “Westdeutsche Algemeine Zeitung” wrote about Mr. Pisarev: “His performance can’t be forgotten… The pianist presented such impressive music that is rarely heard. The fact that his playing is distinguished for virtuosity – is of no doubt, because that is the basis for transparent sounding of music by Debussy, Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. His performance was really transparent. The sounds of Sonata by Scarlatti sparkled like clear radiant water drops. The “Suite Bergamasque” by Debussy sounded as a canvass painted with clear bright colors.
